The origin of hair extensions

"The first hair extensions appeared in ancient Egypt."
Long reserved for a wealthy clientele or the entertainment world, hair extensions today are a real social phenomenon allowing us to transform our hair quickly.
In reality, the first hair extensions appeared in ancient Egypt where braiding and the adornment of hair jewelry were social markers for both men and women.
At the time, a full head of hair was a sign of belonging to a wealthy social class. People from the lower classes were resigned to shaving their heads and wearing wigs made from plant fibers or wool to avoid lice infestations. The first skeleton of a woman wearing hair extensions was unearthed in the Amarna cemetery (the archaeological site of Akhetaten).
